    6 DAYS – DISCOVER ICELAND AND ITS BEAUTY DURING THE WINTER SEASON

    Discover the Northern Lights in Iceland! In wintertime nature offers an extraordinary light phenomenon: Aurora Borealis, also called polar lights or northern lights, moves across the icelandic night sky like coloured shimmering curtains. Enjoy the warm familiar atmosphere of our house, taste a variety of Icelandic culinary delicacies and get to know our neighbours, who will give you an insight into their lives and work – a real privilege! During easy walks, we will discover many amazing natural sights: The beautiful Borgarfjörður region with the extraordinary waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, located in a nature reserve, as well as Europe’s most abundant and impressive hot thermal spring Deildartunguhver. And there is more natural beauty to be admired on our hikes: the beautiful peninsula of Vatnsnes with its seal colony, black beach and impressive cliff formations. In the little town of Borgarnes you can visit the „Landnámssetur“, a museum about the early settlement of Iceland. Finally, at the end of this varied winter journey, we stop at the famous Blue Lagoon and visit a hot thermal area with the geothermal spring Gunnuhver, where temperatures up to 300 degrees have been measured. These mud pools, the so-called fumaroles, leak steam into the unique and wonderfully coloured landscape.

  • Program „Northern Lights, Ice and the Silence of Winter“

    Arrival – Airport Keflavík – Borgarfjörður
    Pick up at the airport between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm or in Reykjavík around 05:30 pm at the gas station N1, Ártúnshöfði on Vesturlandsvegur heading north out of town. Transfer to the region Borgarfjörður, where we will stay at a cosy simple country Hotel at Kirkjuból. Tonight, we are looking the first time for northern lights. (D)
    Borgarfjörður – Borgarnes – Brekkulækur
    After breakfast, we will drive to the northwest of Iceland to our farm and guesthouse Brekkulækur. On the way, we stop to look at some beautiful sights of nature such as the unusual waterfall Hraunfossar, Barnafoss and the hot thermal spring Deildar-tunguhver. After dinner, we are of course watching out for northern lights. (B, D)
    Brekkulækur – Hvammstangi – Hot Pot
    We will start the day with a visit to the naturally warm outdoor swimming pool in Hvammstangi, a unique spa experience. Afterwards, we enjoy a delicious brunch. In the afternoon, we take a walk around the farm to look at our 80 horses, who live on large winter pastures nearby and/or visit interesting characters in the neighbourhood: occupation farmer with a passion for the arts.     Excursion – Peninsula Vatnsnes – Seals
    It’s excursion day and we drive to the beautiful peninsula Vatnsnes, enjoy the fresh sea breeze, watch out for seals and walk along a black beach to the unique basalt formation Hvítserkur. We will have dinner at the farm and look out for the fascinating light phenomenon at night again. (B, P, D)
    Brekkulækur – Borgarnes – Blue Lagoon – Hot thermal area Gunnuhver
    Today, we leave the farm Brekkulækur and travel to the south of the island. On the way we visit Borgarnes and the Settlement Centre, an interesting museum about the early days of Iceland and the Sagas (Exhibition Entrance optional). We will also do a short stop at the Blue Lagoon and afterwards we visit the hot thermal area with the geothermal spring Gunnuhver. We spend the night in a simple Hotel in Keflavík, close to the beach. This evening, we will look out again for northern lights. Dinner in Keflavík (optional). (B)
    End of program/departure
    Transfer to the airport at 5:00 am, farewell to Iceland and flight home.

  • Program as described: 6 days, 5 nights, in DBL-rooms (SGL-room on request and at extra charge 220.-EUR). DBL-rooms with priv. bathroom, SGL-rooms with shared facilities.
  • Meals as described (B=breakfast, P=picnic, L=lunch, D=dinner), English speaking native guide.
  • During this journey, the accommodation sites are chosen carefully so that you have a clear view of the night sky without light pollution from cities or villages.
  • We reserve the right to alter the schedule and content of the programme e.g. due to extreme variations in arctic weather!

    • However, there is no guarantee for the natural phenomenon!

Not included: Insurance, short transfers in Reykjavík.
