    7 DAYS – ICELANDIC CELEBRATIONS AND COUNTRY LIFE

    Winter, feasts and Icelandic way of life on the country side. Who does not want to experience Iceland in the wintertime? Northern lights, sometimes blizzards, short days but long dawns… How do Icelanders celebrate New Year? What are fairy fires? We try to get some insight in the cultural life, celebrate New Year with our hosts and gather new energy for the year to come.

    Day 1, 28.12.Day 2, 29.12.Day 3, 30.12.Day 4, 31.12.Day 5, 01.01.Day 6, 02.01.Day 7, 03.01.
    Arrival – Borgarfjörður
    Arrival and pick up at the airport in Keflavík between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm or around 5:30 pm in Reykjavík at the gas station N1, Ártúnshöfði on Vesturlandsvegur heading north out of town. Transfer to Kirkjuból in the beautiful region of Borgarfjörður, where we will stay in a cosy country hotel. (D)
    Borgarfjörður – Borgarnes – Brekkulækur
    After breakfast we set off, stopping along the way at natural beauties such as the extraordinary Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls and the Deildartunguhver hot spring. Stop in the small town of Borgarnes. Afterwards we drive to the northwest of Iceland. On the way we climb the inactive volcano Grábrók, then continue to the farm and guesthouse Brekkulækur where we are welcomed with coffee and cake.
    Excursion day
    We go by car to a seal colony on the beautiful peninsula Vatnsnes, short hikes. Lunch and dinner at Brekkulækur. We also take a look at Icelandic literature, which began with the sagas in the Middle Ages.
    Swimming pool – Celebrating
    We start the day in the Hot Pool in the little village Hvammstangi. Afterwards awaits us brunch and in the afternoon we have a hike perhaps to our horses. In the evening we watch a huge fire – an Icelandic tradition on New Years Eve. After midnight, a relaxed and cozy get-together with our hosts.
    Service
    Late breakfast and at your leisure. In the afternoon we attend a service in a small church. If interested we can watch an Icelandic movie on DVD.
    Reykjavík
    We leave Brekkulækur in the morning, heading for Reykjavík where we have time to explore the city at our own. Overnight in a guesthouse.
    Transfer to the airport
    Departure at 4.45 am farewell to Iceland and return flight.
