    7 DAYS – ICELANDIC CELEBRATIONS AND COUNTRY LIFE

    Winter, feasts and Icelandic way of life on the country side. Who does not want to experience Iceland in the wintertime? Northern lights, sometimes blizzards, short days but long dawns… How do Icelanders celebrate New Year? What are fairy fires? We try to get some insight in the cultural life, celebrate New Year with our hosts and gather new energy for the year to come.

    Day 1, 28.12.Day 2, 29.12.Day 3, 30.12.Day 4, 31.12.Day 5, 01.01.Day 6, 02.01.Day 7, 03.01.
    Arrival
    Welcome at the international airport between 14.00 and 16.00 p.m. Transfer to Brekkulækur and night lodging.
    Brekkulækur – Swimming pool
    We start the day like many Icelanders by going to the swimming pool and the hot pot. Afterwards brunch at Brekkulækur. One of evenings between the years we will attend to a local come together in the community centre.
    Excursion day
    We go by car to a seal colony on the beautiful peninsula Vatnsnes, short hikes. Lunch and dinner at Brekkulækur. The afternoon at your leisure. In the evening we will read from Icelandic books, have a cup of tea and light the candles.
    Swimming pool – Celebrating
    We start the day in the Hot Pot and in the afternoon we have a hike to the neighbours and look at the sheep stable. The Icelandic sheep is a special breed since 900 years. In the evening we watch a huge fire – an Icelandic tradition on New Years Eve. After that we return to the farm and spend the midnight with our hosts.
    Service
    At your leisure . Hike to the hills to get acquainted with Icelandic horses. In the afternoon we attend a service in a small church.
    Reykjavík
    We leave Brekkulækur in the morning, heading for Reykjavík where we have time to explore the city at our own. Overnight in a down town guesthouse.
    Transfer to the airport
    After breakfast at the guesthouse our program comes to an end.(no breakfast at very early morning flights)

    Program as described:

  • 7 days, 5 nights in DBL with priv facilities / SGL at our farm without priv bath
  • 1 night in a simple Hotel Reykjavík, Single on request
  • Transfer from Reykjavík to Brekkulækur and back again
  • Full board at Brekkulækur begins with dinner on day 1 until breakfast day 6. Day 7 no breakfast with early morning flights
  • Sightseeing as listed in the program and entrance fee to the swimming pool
  • English, Icelandic and German speaking guide

Not included: Insurance, short transfers in Reykjavík.
