THE VALLEYS – RIDE
10 DAYS –AMAZING VALLEYS AND GREAT MOUNTAINS
Over 20 years a part of our program and getting better and better! A beautiful Round trip through ever changing scenery in both inhabited and abandoned valleys of the region „Dalir“ (= the Valleys) with unbelievable views and very good riding tracks to enjoy the Tölt - great for experienced Icelandic horse riders! The ride starts and ends at the horse farm Brekkulækur. Nature Sightseeing to peninsula Vatnsnes with seal colony and bird rock and a cultural evening.
Program "The Valleys-Ride"
Day 1. Arrival
welcome at the airport in the evening. Transfer to Reykjavík. Overnight in a quiet downtown guesthouse.(1x)
Day 2. Reykjavík-Brekkulæk
Time for shopping and sightseeing / or Arrival at Keflavík airport today not later than 16:00 p.m. Transfer to Reykjavík.17.00 p.m. transfer from Reykjavík to the north, farm Brekkulækur. Nightloding there.(3x)
Day 3. Get together
The morning is at your leisure. A ride to get acquainted with the horses in the afternoon.
Day 4. Seals-Hrútafjörður
In the morning a 4-hour-sightseeing-drive to a seal colony and a bird cliff. First riding stage (approx. 4 hours in the saddle) over moraines on easy route to a pasture in Hrútafjörður, where the horses can rest. Transfer back to Brekkulækur. Night-lodging there.
Day 5. Haukadalsskarð-Dalir
Over the mountain pass Haukadalsskarð we will reach the region Dalir and Night-lodging in a old farmhouse(3x). Hot pot nearby.
Day 6. Dalir
Today we ride along the picturesque lake Haukadalsvatn, have a step to the seaside and than to Middalir, the "Valleys" (= Dalir). We leave the horses in a pasture. A cultural evening in the museum Eiríksstaðir – how was the life as a wiking?
Day 7. Dalir
A scenic but strenuous ride over a steep mountain pass and through narrow valleys.
Day 8. Holtavörðuheiði
We ride about 7 hours on the disused old road over the highlands to fjord Hrútafjörður, where the horses spend the night in a pastur. Night lodging at the farm Brekkulækur.(2x).
Day 9. Brekkulækur
Last riding stage back to Brekkulækur. Taking leave from the horses, followed by relaxation in the hot pool of Hvammstangi.
Day 10. Reykjavík-flight home
After breakfast transfer to Reykjavík. Time for shopping and sightseeing there.. Transfer to the airport for night flights home or overnight in Reykjavík.
