Arrival – Transfer to Brekkulækur
Meeting at the airport in Keflavík between 3:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. or from 5:30 p.m. in Reykjavík at the N1 gas station, Ártúnshöfði on Vesturlandsvegur heading north out of town. Then transfer to the north of the island to Brekkulækur guesthouse, our accommodation for the next 3 days, and dinner there. (A)
Brekkulækur – Vatnsnes peninsula
What’s nicer than being woken up by bird songs? The morning is free and in the afternoon we go on a trip to the beautiful Vatnsnes peninsula, with short hikes. A unique coastal landscape and encounters with seals await us there. On the way back to Brekkulækur we visit the beautiful Kolugil gorge. (F,M,A)
Hike in the highlands
Hike from Húkur farm over the Hrútafjarðarháls, a foothills of the highlands and an extensive wetland with many lakes. From here you have a beautiful view and families of whooper swans and loons on the lakes. “Pick up” on the main road and continue to Hvammstangi, where we enjoy the naturally hot water in a typical Icelandic outdoor swimming pool. (F,P,A)
Brekkulækur – Borgarfjördur
We drive to the beautiful Borgarfjörður, climb the Grábrok crater and visit the Glanni waterfall. Continue to Borgarnes and visit the land acquisition center there, which is worth seeing. Here you have the opportunity to have a delicious lunch snack, visit the souvenir shop and the exhibition (optional). Refreshed, we continue to the largest hot water spring in Europe: Deildartunguhver. Overnight stay at the country hotel Hótel Á. (F,A)
Hraunfossar – Húsafell
Today we first take a trip to the Hraunfossar nature reserve with its beautiful waterfalls. We look around the historically interesting Húsafell farm. Then a drive across the beautiful highlands to the Surtshellir lava cave, which was made famous by outlaws in the Middle Ages. Further stops at a special spring and a petrified resident of the area. (F,A)
Hvalfjörður – Thingvellir – Reykjanes
Over the Dragháls pass to Hvalfjord. Onward over the Kjósarskarð pass to Þingvellir National Park, short hike. Pick up and drive on to Keflavik. Overnight stay in the guesthouse where we stay for 2 nights. (F)
Keflavik – Reykjanes
Reykjanes is a volcanically active area and has experienced 5 eruptions in the last 4 years. A hike in the volcanic area can arise from the current situation, which we will of course take advantage of. But we can certainly take a look at the fresh lava from a safe distance. Visit to the Gunnuhver mud springs and the Brimketill lava coast on the Reykjanes peninsula. Overnight stay in our guest house again. (F)
End of program/Departure
Early morning transfer to the airport (departure from the guesthouse at 5:00 a.m.). Farewell to Iceland.
