13 DAYS TREKKING TOUR - HIGHLAND HIKE
An ambitious hiking tour , we start comfortable at the world famous Blue Lagoon than a pre-program to some of the highlights in Icelandic nature such as waterfall Gullfoss and hot spring Geysir – the hiking is a real challenge for enthusiastic hikers over the magnificent highland. We will see a part of the highland called Arnarvatnsheiði which is not very known but a nature paradise.
Program "Lava, caves and moor "
Day 1, Sun: Arrival
Arrival and pick up at the airport and short drive to a guesthouse near the world-famous Blue Lagoon spa. Overnight stay in multi-bedrooms at the guesthouse.
Day 2, Mon: Gullfoss – Geysir – Þingvellir - Húsafell
In the morning get-together with the guide at the guesthouse. By car to some of Iceland’s wonders, such as Geysir, Gullfoss ("The Golden Waterfall"), and past the historical parliament site at Þingvellir as well as Iceland' s most productive hot spring, Deildartunguhver. At Húsafell we will stay for the night (3x) in very simple 2-person-huts on a camping place. Hot pool nearby.
Day 3, Tues: Hraunfossar
A walk to the beautiful waterfalls of Hraunfossar. Day-pack.
Day 4, Wed: Húsafell
A day-long hike in the mountains around Húsafell. Day-pack.
Day 5, Thur: Surtshellir – Álftakrókur
Drive to Iceland’s largest lava cave Surtshellir with a main passage of 1,6 km length and many side passages, where outlaws sought temporary shelter in the Middle Ages. After a tour through the cave, we hike (hiking-pack) for about 6 hours through the moor Arnarvatnsheiði to the mountain hut Alftakrókur. Night-lodging in the hut.
Day 6, Fri: Álftakrókur - Fljótsdrög
(Hiking baggage) Hike over rough terrain to the mountain hut Fljótsdrög, skirting the lava field Hallmundarhraun and Glacial rivers. Night-lodging in the hut.(2x)
Day 7, Sat: A day's walk
We walk (day baggage) to the unnamed crater from which the 50-km-long lava flow issued. We are now quite close to the glaciers Eiríksjökull and Langjökull and enjoy the amazing view.
Day 8, Sun: Fljotsdrög - Lónaborg
We cross moraine hills and pass the lake Arnarvatn on our way to the hut Lónaborg (hiking baggage). Up until now, we have seen few other living things in the landscape around us. The sparse, but none the less beautiful sub arctic flora and fauna now attract our attention. Night-lodging in the hut. (2x)
Day 9, Mon: Day of rest
We explore the area around Lónaborg (no baggage) and fish together for our lunch.
Day 10, Tue: Lónaborg - Aðalból
After a 20-km hike (hiking baggage), we come to a rough road, where a minibus is waiting to bring us to Brekkulækur. Overnight in double/triple rooms. (2 x)
Day 11, Wed: Sightseeing day
Sightseeing trip to the sea side - a seal-colony and bird-cliff, walking on the beach, no baggage.
Day 12, Thu: Reykjavík - Departure
After breakfast transfer to Reykjavík, possibility for private sight seeing and shopping. Evening transfer to the airport or overnight stay in a guesthouse with multi- and double bedrooms (for Friday flights).
Day 13, Fri: Transfer to the airport.
